Matas Duarte leads the Android Design team. He's responsible for all aspects of the software and visual experience across the Android platform, core applications services, and the design of Nexus tablets and phones. The Android Design team recently designed the critically acclaimed Nexus 5 phone, Nexus 7 tablet, Android 4.4 KitKat, and the Google Now Launcher which brings the predictive power and natural language voice control of Google Now to the home screen. Matas has led the design of the four prior versions of Android, including Jellybean which introduced Google Now, Ice Cream Sandwich which introduced the Holo visual style for Android, and Honeycomb which brought Android to tablets. Prior to Google, Matas spearheaded the design of several lauded consumer devices and computing platforms. As VP of Human Interface at Palm, he led the design of the WebOS operating system. As VP of User Experience at Helio, he created the Ocean series of 2 way sliders, and as Director of Design at Danger he led the design of the T-Mobile Sidekick. Matas received his bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland in College Park. His ongoing mission is to make computers delightful.
