Once you’ve put in your 10,000 hours as a UX designer, what’s next? Often, it’s the idea of becoming a consultant. Heck, your experience so far means you’re halfway there already. But while a designer can sit quietly during meetings and take refuge behind a 27” display, a consultant is expected to walk into the conference room and turn on the magic.
There’s a particular subset of skills that come into play as a UX consultant, from active listening to facilitation to improv and gamestorming. And to go along with it, there are particular techniques that make great consultants stand out, and that help lead projects to successful outcomes. In this presentation, we’ll look at the key aspects of what makes a good consultant, and how to develop them within your own skill set.
